Nineteen Eighty-Four , published in 1949, is one of George Orwells most famous novels. In 1984 the Earth, following an atomic war, is divided into three great totalitarian powers: Oceania, Eurasia and Eastasia. The society is governed according to the principles of IngSoc, the British Socialist Party, and controlled by Big Brother, a character that no one has ever seen in person but who appears on posters posted all over the place. In the dystopian and totalitarian reality described by Orwell it is easy to trace traits of Hitlers and Stalins totalitarianism. The text has influenced cinema, music, literature, television, games and video games through time. George Orwell, pseudonym of Eric Arthur Blair, was born in Motihari on 25 June 1903. Even today he is considered one of the greatest and most influential English authors of the Twentieth Century. Orwell had socialist political ideas, even if anti-Soviet, and he was gifted with strong acumen and a visionary mind. He died in London on January 21, 1950.
