Sinopsis

The next generation features Reinhard, known as 'Had-dele' in Africa, who later becomes a gardener at the West Berlin Botanical Garden, and his wife, a sculptor from Switzerland. Between these two generations, we encounter Kamante, an unusual African native, the grandfather's companion, his son's teacher, and a fanatical aircraft builder whose converted plane, the 'Douglas-Fokker-Kamante 6,' is even allowed to fly in the Berlin Airlift. Finally, I am born, who later, thanks to my Tanzanian ancestry, am allowed to study literature at Humboldt University in East Berlin as the only white West Berliner in order to become a writer. Like Goethe with his Werther, I become a young literary shooting star and then drag myself unsuccessfully through life.
